First International Grenache Day - 24 September 2010

GRENACHE LOVERS UNITE – for the First Annual International Grenache Day!!

A global movement is afoot, to put Grenache in its rightful place on the wine map and we hope you will join us!

On September 24th, 2010, events celebrating the Great Grenache Grape will take place around the world. We’re asking all of you Grenache fans to approach your neighbourhood restaurant and/or favourite wine retailer (or use your own business, if applicable) to feature a special Grenache-centred activity. Maybe a sales promotion, a wine-tasting, or a special restaurant dish/menu designed for Grenache pairings… anything goes, for the greater good of Grenache!

In an effort to assist you (or to persuade others to get involved), we’ve included several attachments to this email:

-       A general press release describing International Grenache Day in more detail (please forward on to any press contacts or people who can put information online!)

IGD press release

-       The Great Grenache Primer – a useful two-page educational tool that consumers and the trade can use to educate others on the nature of Grenache and its ideal food pairings by style – what a versatile grape!

Additional Grenache & Food Pairing Notes

-    A promotional flyer to post on walls, email to press contacts, display near grenache-based wine products

-    Some International Grenache Day activation ideas and materials – whether your interest is restaurants, retail, recreation or writing – we hope you will use these ideas as a starting point and forward other ideas to others to spread the word for the big day in September!

Please forward these attachments and this email to everyone you know, get them involved and encourage them to join in with their own ideas and events.

And in the interest of adding a bit of fun, we’re calling on all those involved to wear a loud, funky shirt to their wine event on 24th September (if you know Aussie winemaker Chester Osborne of d’Arenberg fame, you’ll get the idea…). Take a picture of yourself with your friends, email it to us and we’ll post it on the Grenache Symposium website (www.grenachesymposium.com), the official headquarters of International Grenache Day.

Events are already scheduled at restaurants from Santa Barbara, to London to  the Barossa Valley and the South of France. Stay tuned to our website for additional event announcements as the date approaches.  Any questions, please email brigitte@grenachesymposium.com or susan@grenachesymposium.com

Thanks so much for joining in with us to increase the profile of this noble grape. Stay in touch and let us know how you celebrate!

Sincerely,

The members of the Grenache Association
