In 2010, the first meeting of the Grenache Symposium will take place over the weekend of June 5 in the Rhône Valley, France. A showcase for the world’s Grenache wines, the 2010 symposium will also include a vital “think-tank” component, aimed at building understanding of the opportunities and challenges currently facing the Grenache world. But the Grenache Symposium is not just a one off event, or even a series of events. The Grenache Symposium aims to establish itself as a united voice of Grenache wine producers and fans throughout the world. ‘Raising the Standard’ is our rallying cry as we aim both to wave the flag of this Unsung Hero of the wine world at large; and to facilitate discussion and knowledge exchange throughout the (smaller) world of Grenache wine production.

Amongst other things, the 2010 Grenache Symposium will establish a plan for moving forward on both of these fronts. The event itself will highlight the quality and diversity of the worlds Grenache wines, focusing the attention of the world’s wine press and professionals. Beyond that, we will begin to plan ways in which this web site and other communications opportunities might be developed to simultaneously reach out to the public at large; and to facilitate in-depth discussion of all-things-Grenache amongst the worlds Grenache wine producers.

The 2010 Grenache Symposium is evolving as you read this. As plans are confirmed, they will be published on this site. When it happens, the 2010 symposium will be reported here. And after that, as the Grenache Symposium’s role evolves and clarifies, this site will become an essential reference tool for all-things-Grenache.

The Grenache Symposium is a non-profit organization dedicated solely to the better understanding and appreciation of Grenache.
